What we looked at

Five things decide whether a script tool saves you time or makes more work. Where a vendor does not publish something, we say so rather than guess.
Voice
Is your voice learned from your own videos or writing, or set with tone presets and a prompt each time?
Facts
Does it research before writing, keep the sources, and check claims, or is fact-checking left to you?
Editing
Can you review AI changes line by line, and is there an editor at all, or do you copy the script out?
Languages
Which languages scripts are written in, and whether that is stated at all.
Price
The cheapest paid plan, how it is billed, and whether there is a real way to try it free.

The tools, one by one

Subscribr

Checked

Best for: A full production suite and the most languages

Paid plans from
$99/mo
Free way to try
A free plan, but it includes no script credits

Where it is strong

  • Many more languages (40+), including Hinglish.
  • A full production suite: faceless video generation, thumbnails and an outlier research database.
  • Multiple channels and team seats on paid plans.
  • A long track record with many public reviews (Trustpilot 4.7 from 82 reviews, AppSumo 4.8 from 164 on the research date).

Worth knowing

The first plan with script credits is $99 a month. Reviewers say intros can come out generic, and that getting the channel voice right takes some trial and error.

Plans

  • Free, $0: No card. 0 script credits; 1 channel, 3 idea batches and 10 intel searches a month.
  • Growth, $99/mo: 60 script credits (about 12 ten-minute scripts), 66 video credits, 150 thumbnails, 3 channels, 3 users.
  • Pro, $249/mo: 180 script credits, 185 video credits, 500 thumbnails, 5 channels, 10 users.
  • Max, $499/mo: 300 script credits, 415 video credits, 1,000 thumbnails, unlimited channels and users.

Scripti

Checked

Best for: The lowest price per script

Paid plans from
$19/mo
Free way to try
Yes: 4 free tools and 10 credits, no card or email

Where it is strong

  • The lowest price per script in the category at its Creator tier.
  • Packaging and script generated together from one angle.
  • Free tools that need no email.

Worth knowing

Monthly credits reset each billing period and do not roll over. Its voice card is built from 2 or 3 of your videos, so it needs a channel to start from.

Plans

  • Free, $0: No card or email. 4 free tools (Title, Hook, Transcript, Script Analyzer), 20 tracked channels, 10 credits.
  • Creator, $19/mo: 20 complete video projects a month, 3 voice profiles, refinement with your own API keys.
  • Studio, $49/mo: 130 projects, unlimited voice profiles, 10 refinement turns per generation.
  • Team, $99/mo: Shared workspace.

vidIQ

Checked

Paid plans from
$19/mo
Free way to try

Where it is strong

  • Established keyword research and channel analytics, which we do not offer.
  • Free daily script drafts.
  • A lower entry price for a paid plan.

Worth knowing

Script voice is set with tone presets or a prompt rather than learned from your own videos. The script writer is one tool among many, and the core of vidIQ is research and analytics.

Plans

  • Free, $0: 150 AI credits a month.
  • Boost, $19/mo, or $16.58/mo billed annually: Paid tier; $199 a year on annual billing.
  • Max, $49/mo, or $39/mo billed annually: Top tier; $468 a year on annual billing.

Where it is strong

  • A low price for a high volume of generations.
  • Many small generation tools in one plan.

Worth knowing

There is no way to try it free: TubeMagic says trials are paused because of spam. Its site does not say which languages scripts support.

Poppy AI

Checked

Best for: Visual thinkers who arrange sources on a board

Paid plans from
$33/mo billed annually
Free way to try
No free plan; $1 for the first 7 days

Where it is strong

  • A visual whiteboard that suits people who think by arranging sources spatially.
  • Human onboarding calls.
  • Multiplayer boards for collaborating on research.

Worth knowing

Plans are billed annually only. There is no document editor, so scripts are copied out to edit, and refunds require attending an onboarding call first.

ChatGPT

Checked

Best for: A general assistant for far more than scripts

Paid plans from
$8/mo
Free way to try
Yes, a free plan with lower limits

Where it is strong

  • It does far more than scripts: any writing, research, analysis or coding task.
  • A cheaper entry plan: Go is $8 a month.
  • Direct access to OpenAI's newest models as they ship.
  • Far more languages: dozens, against our nine.

Worth knowing

It is not built for YouTube: there is no hook, outline and script workflow, no voiceover or upload text from the finished script, and how close it gets to your voice depends on the examples and instructions you give it each time.

Plans

  • ChatGPT Go, $8/mo: OpenAI's lower-cost plan, sold alongside Plus and Pro.
  • ChatGPT Plus, $20/mo: Higher limits than Go for messages, file uploads, memory and context, and expanded access to advanced models.
  • ChatGPT Pro, From $100/mo: Pro tiers at $100, $200 and $500 a month, each with more usage of OpenAI's most capable models.

Hookquill pricing

Questions

What is the best AI for writing YouTube scripts?

It depends on what you need around the script. Subscribr has the widest production suite and 40+ languages, Scripti the lowest price per script, vidIQ pairs scripts with keyword research, and Hookquill writes in your own voice with every fact sourced and checked. ChatGPT can write a script too, if you give it your examples and instructions.

Is there a free AI YouTube script writer?

Yes, with limits. vidIQ’s free plan includes 150 AI credits a month, Scripti gives 10 credits and four free tools with no email, ChatGPT has a free plan, and Hookquill writes your first video free with no card. Subscribr’s free plan has no script credits.

Can ChatGPT write YouTube scripts?

Yes. Give it the topic, your audience, the length and a few examples of how you talk, and it writes a usable draft. What a script tool adds is the workflow around it: a voice learned from your videos, research kept with its sources, and the voiceover and upload text made from the final script.

Do I have to tell YouTube that AI wrote my script?

No. YouTube asks creators to label realistic altered or synthetic media, such as a real person made to say something they did not. Using AI to help write a script does not need a label. To earn money, the YouTube Partner Program still expects original content, not mass-produced or repetitive videos.

How were the prices checked?

On each vendor’s own pricing page, on the date shown for each tool. vidIQ and OpenAI block automated checks, so those prices come from our last read of their pages and dated pricing guides. Prices change, so confirm on the vendor’s site before you buy, and email us if something here is out of date.
