YouTube description and chapters generator
Paste your outline and get a description written for search, plus chapter timestamps in the format YouTube accepts. Free, no signup.
How to use it
- Paste your outline or script notes. Section headings with a line on each are plenty. The description only covers what the outline covers, so a thin outline gets a thin description.
- Include timestamps if you have them. Once your edit is done, note where each section starts. With timestamps, the chapters use your times exactly.
- Otherwise, give the length. Without timestamps, the length lets the generator estimate start times you can adjust later.
- Copy all, then add your own links. The copied text has the description, chapters and hashtags in the order YouTube expects.
What YouTube needs for chapters
Chapters appear on the progress bar and in search, and they let viewers jump to the part they came for. YouTube only turns a timestamp list into chapters when it follows a few rules:
- The first timestamp is 0:00.
- There are at least three timestamps, in ascending order.
- Each chapter is at least ten seconds long.
The generator checks every list against these rules before showing it, and drops any chapter that would break them. Chapter titles should say what happens in that part. “Intro” and “Outro” tell the viewer nothing.
Why the first two lines matter most
Only the first couple of lines of a description show before “more”, and they are often what appears under your video in search. So they are written to earn the click: what the viewer gets, in the words they would search for. The summary underneath is for the viewers who expand it.
Example
0:00 Why I started tracking · 1:10 The spreadsheet setup · 3:40 Week one surprises · 6:20 What changed by week four · 9:00 The one habit I kept
0:00 Why track every coffee
1:10 Building the tracking sheet
3:40 What week one showed
6:20 How the habit shifted by week four
9:00 The one habit worth keeping

FAQ
Questions
Why are my chapter times marked as estimates?
Your outline had no timestamps, so the times were estimated from how much material each section has and the length you gave. They will be close, not exact. Check each one against your final edit before you publish.
Why didn’t I get any chapters?
YouTube ignores a chapter list that breaks its rules, so we only show one that passes them: at least three chapters, the first at 0:00, each at least ten seconds long. If your outline has fewer than three parts, add more detail and run it again.
Should I add hashtags?
A few relevant ones can help people find the video, and YouTube can show hashtags from the description above the title. More is not better. The generator suggests at most three and leaves them out when none would help.
Will it add links or affiliate text?
No. It never invents links, sponsors or products. Add your own links, credits and disclosures below the generated text.
Can it write descriptions in other languages?
Yes: English, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Indonesian, and Arabic. Chapter titles are written in the same language.
Chapters from the real script
When you write in Hookquill, chapters come from the finished script’s sections and word counts at your own speaking pace, so the times are close before you even edit.
