How 9,000 words split across a 60-minute video, at 150 words a minute.
| Part | Words | Runs | Its job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hook | 75 | 0:00–0:30 | Confirm the click, open a question, promise the answer. |
| Setup | 630 | 0:30–4:42 | Why this matters now, and what the viewer will leave with. |
| 12 main sections | 8,145 | 4:42–59:00 | About 680 words each. Open each one with a reason to keep watching. |

What changes at this length
- Mid-roll ads open up at 8 minutes
- YouTube lets monetized channels place mid-roll ads in videos that run 8 minutes or longer. Only stretch a video to reach 8 minutes if the extra minutes are worth watching: viewers who leave early cost more than an ad slot earns.
- Re-hook every two or three minutes
- Attention dips at section changes. Open each new section with a short line that gives the viewer a fresh reason to stay: a question, a stake, or a hint of what is coming next.
- Add chapters
- Write the section titles so they double as chapters. YouTube shows chapters when the description lists at least three timestamps, the first at 0:00, each chapter at least 10 seconds long.
- Research before you write
- A script this long is 9,000 words or more. Gather your facts and sources first and outline every section before drafting: long videos lose viewers to vague middles, not to slow intros.
